10 Tips for DIY Sunburn Relief
The big yellow guy in the sky can fry!! Of course we are talking about the sun here and everyone has had a least 1 sunburn in their life that they'll never forget, right? The pain, the blisters, the peeling. From clothes to sleeping to showers, everything is a struggle.
Ok lets say you accidentally forgot the magic slip, slop, slap formula and had a bit too much sun, in other words you got sunburnt. So lets speed up this uncomfortable recovery process with a little kitchen DIY home remedies for sunburn relief.
Water & Ice
- a simple cool bath or shower
- spritz affected area with chilled water
- apply wrapped ice packs to affected area 10mins on / 10mins off
- drink plenty of water to keep hydrated
Cucumbers
- mash cucumbers and place in cheesecloth or a cotton thin tea towel & place directly on affected area
- mix mashed cucumber with chilled milk & spritz affected area
Aloe Vera
- use fresh cut aloe leaf and remove the skin from one side. scoop out the gel like pulp. apply directly to affected area
- mash pulp and place in cheesecloth / towel & place directly on affected area
- place mashed pulp in ice cube trays and freeze. place frozen aloe cubes in cheesecloth / towel to affected area 10mins on / 10mins off
Tea
- steep a large strong pot of tea using 4-6 tea bags. Cool tea down in refrigerator, soak cotton cloth in tea & apply to affected area.
- spritz area with chilled tea & milk mixture, mix 1:1 ratio
Vinegar
- use household white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- spritz affected area directly with vinegar
- soak cotton cloth in vinegar & apply directly to the affected area
- add 2-3 cups of vinegar to a cool bath
Milk
- spritz the affected area with chilled milk
- add a gallon of milk to a cool bath
- apply plain yogurt directly to the affected area
Oatmeal
- mix raw oatmeal with egg whites and apply directly to the affected area
- add 2 cups of oatmeal to a cool bath
Essential Oils
- add 10-12 drops of your favorite essential oils to water & spritz on affected area
- lavender & chamomile are recommended
- keep out of reach of children and out of eyes & mouth
Corn Starch
- mix cornstarch with water to create a spreadable paste. apply directly to the affected area & let dry
- add & dissolve 2 cups of corn starch in a cool bath
Honey
- apply & smear honey directly over the affected area or apply to gauze first
- mix honey with milk & chill, spritz directly on the affected area, ratio is 1:1
